I looked through the archives but didn't see any resolution on the status of LAME on the AMD64 platform. I downloaded the 3.96.1 source and compiled but I don't think it is using any MMX or 3DNOW or SSE optimizations to speed it up. Currently, I'm getting about a 2.6 (tops) play/cpu rating converting WAV files to 64Kb mp3 and I think it should be a lot faster than that .
My system: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1G DDR400 MSI Neo FSR K8T800 SuSE 9.1 Professional AMD64
