It was devd indeed. I don't plan on restarting MPD often enough for this to be
an actual problem, but I was worried that this could be a misconfiguration or a
bug somewhere.
The following addition to devd.conf solves this problem for me:
notify 1000 {
match "system" "IFNET";
match "subsystem" "ng[0-9]+";
};
Disabling devd entirely if unneeded also does the trick, as you mentioned.
