For those users who have gcc 4.3.2 (e.g. in Debian Lenny) which miscompiles MPIR, there is the following information provided by Gonzalo, which should help:
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Gonzalo Tornaria <torna...@cmat.edu.uy> Date: 9 April 2010 01:21 Subject: gcc 4.3.4 for debian stable To: Bill Hart <goodwillh...@googlemail.com> FYI, there's an update to gcc-4.3.4 in the backports repo (http://packages.debian.org/lenny-backports/gcc-4.3) which should work in lenny (stable debian). Maybe that's useful to mention somewhere (or tell people with problems). I haven't tried it on my box yet, but I will later. (the main point of the backport being that it doesn't depend on new libraries; e.g. if one were to install the newer gcc-4.4 from testing, it would probably require a new libc and in chain another zillion upgrades to testing, while the one in backport should be more or less self-contained).
