I get this when I try to look at the mplayer man page, in the 1.0rc2 release:
% man -M /opt/local/share/man mplayer

file /opt/local/share/man/man1/mplayer.1
done
This is under OpenSolaris. It's not a matter of having too little space in
/tmp
or anything like that; the machine has a few GB there. groff is not in
evidence
on this machine, if there is some dependency on that version of the formatter.
