Today in the Strib Jax said that Governor Ventura views education funding
from a four-year perspective, and feels that the state had been generous in
its education allocations in the last biennium.

I don't get though how that helps pay for all the utility-based increases
which are a significant proportion of the budget shortfall this year. It
wasn't foreseen in the last biennium. That additional money can't be just
not spent till the next biennium. Maybe Jax and Ventura could negotiate
with vendors of the state's school systems, maybe those vendors will accept
I.O.U.'s for now, redeemable when the Governor chooses to up education
funding again.

Jax also mentioned Ventura's thoughts on school district funding transfers
to cover special education shortfalls - apparently schools shouldn't have
to do that so it's ok for him not to fund those amounts. He's going to
advocate for more federal funding.

That is great! That is wonderful! The only thing is, he's going to have to
advocate really really fast and effectively to get our school systems that
extra money for this fall. But he is a very forceful man, if anyone can do
it I'm sure he can.

It is good to know a little about the thinking behind the budget cuts.

I wonder if it would be possible to organize some sort of parent/community
meetings to share information and generate action of some sort...
