When I heard earlier today that students of the Humphrey Institute
organized the Chatterbox event, I expected the discussion to be centered
around policy development and implementation and possibly other wonkish
aspects of city management. I thought it might be interesting, and
possibly boring, so I made sure I had a seat near the door.

Instead, the impression I was left with was that the event was actually
a warm-up for the coming campaign, with the Mayor testing stump speech
material. I've heard the stump speeches before, so there wasn't much
new. The Mayor is plenty energetic when fielding questions - she seems
to genuinely enjoy it. However, the best part of the affair for me
followed the audience question period, when the Mayor and her assistants
stuck around a bit, and were available to discuss concerns individually.
