Cara Letofsky, in her announcement of this Friday's event, poses an
interesting question: "How are neighborhood organizations going to fund
themselves once NRP dollars dry up?"

While the Stevens Square auction sounds like fun, a friend of mine
"conceived," if you will, another idea after learning of the recent House
Transportation Policy Committee's approval of a bill to allow "Choose Life"
license plate sales to benefit certain projects. The possibilities here are
endlessly endless. Here's what my friend suggested to our state rep and
suggested I share with you:

"I have a call in to Len Biernat, our state representative, asking him to
sponsor a bill for license plates sponsoring our neighborhood, Windom
Park, Northeast Minneapolis. We can use the $'s generated by its sale to
replace our NRP funds and get us off the City's dole!"

Please feel free to interpret this any way you wish, with or without tongue
in cheek. I'm beginning to think we all ought to go for it and "Choose ____
(fill in the blank name of your neighborhood, organization, cause, etc.)"

Gayle Bonneville
(who chooses Northeast Minneapolis)
