I recently posted a proposal, on the Usenet newsgroup mn.config, for the
creation of mn.politics.minneapolis. Below is the text of the proposal.
This grew out of concerns about the managed nature of the Minneapolis
Issues Forum listserve. This is an announcement only. If you wish to
discuss this proposal please do so in the Usenet newsgroup mn.config and
not in this forum.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with newsgroups, I refer you to the
following Webpage: http://www.ibiblio.org/usenet-i/usenet-help.html.

>
> For your newsgroups file:
> mn.politics.minneapolis To discuss issues germane to Minneapolis
>
>
> CHARTER:
> mn.politics.minneapolis would carry discussions about politics and other
> issues germane to Minneapolis. The newsgroup will not be moderated and
> will be open to anyone with an interest in Minneapolis.
>
> JUSTIFICATION:
> Currently, there exists a managed listserve, the Minneapolis Issues
> Forum, for the discussion of issues germane to Minneapolis. To open this
> discussion to a wider and larger audience in a less restrictive manner
> than the listserve, mn.politics.minneapolis would be created. Currently,
> the listserve has approximately 10-20 postings per day. The mn.politics
> newsgroup seems ill-suited to the discussion of Minneapolis-specific
> issues and, instead, frequently focuses on national political issues.
