Since we likely won't read about it in the STrib, let me be the first to
report that Mpls.' own Butanes' CD Release Party was a smashing success
tonight at Mpls.' own Cabooze; yes, that historic watering hole/local blues
hang out on the West Bank. Curt Obeda and his band knocked out quality
blues all night long... the kind of stuff that knocks the knees out from
under ya... they were joined by Jim Greenwell, the acclaimed sax player with
Lamont Cranston (who happened to be opening for Delbert McClinton at
Medina). [My loyalties/tastes took me to the West Bank to hear Curt, but I
wish I could have caught Delbert as well.] The Butanes, a hot local blues
group that's paid their dues (and it shows), has been hanging out in the New
Orleans area for the past decade or so, yet remembers their roots and
returns home a few times each year to visit and entertain their Twin City
fans-- and the fans thanked them tonight! It was standing room only; they
were hot! Their new CD, Day & Night, includes original material and
standard, well known blues tunes-- my favorites being 'Hello Sundown' and
'Nighttime is The Right Time.' I even bought a t-shirt... already had the
CD!

Customers of the Cabooze, Joint and Whiskey Junction (a threesome known for
local/national blues acts and beautiful bikes- real heavy metal) have lost
their vast acreage of free parking to the light rail line, so parking is now
a hassle. Someday the light rail will provide a cool trip for those lucky
enough to live along the line; others will miss the vast free parking that
has been available for decades. Is this progressive progress or what?
