Everyone from the Minneapolis Issues Forum is invited to a major
E-Democracy-wide celebration event on May 17. In fact, any candidate
or elected official from Minneapolis who makes it across the bridge
will be given an opportunity to greet the crowd and show their
digital stripes.

Bring some friends and help us get a sense of turn-out by dropping us
an RSVP <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. The full invite is below.

Cheers,

Steven Clift

Notes

(1) Robert Putnam coined the phrase "bowling alone," where league play
has declined and private bowling with friends and family has
increased. He says this is a sign of civic decline and the loss of
"social capital." Most political e-mail is private, between friends,
family, co-workers and of course among political junkies and like-
minded allies. In Minnesota, we are building the "online public
commons" where people can participate in real public life "on their
own time" as a complement to (not replacement of) traditional forms of
time-specific civic participation. Help us expand the opportunities
for true online public participation, not just one-way "as is"
politics online, by joining our helping start a forum in your
community <http://e-democracy.org/discuss.html>.

(2) Minnesota E-Democracy seeks large donations to build a challenge
matching fund of around $10,000 to encourage small individual
donations in our first online pledge drive. You can make a pre-
pledge drive donation or make substantial pledge to our challenge
matching fund by visiting our web site at
<http://e-democracy.org/donate.html>. E-Democracy is a fundamentally
volunteer-based, non-partisan, non-profit citizen organization. We
are considering a part-time Director position in order to expand the
opportunities for more volunteers to make in difference while
providing the necessary coordination we require to remain a strong,
vibrant non-profit organization that serve more communities and bring
new voices into political participation across our great state.
