INDEPENDENCE PARTY WADES INTO MINNEAPOLIS CITY ELECTION
Endorses in Ward Six; IRV Petition

On Saturday, May 5th, The Independence Party endorsed Tamir Nolley in the
race for Jim Nilands vacant Ward Six seat. Tamir won endorsement with a
convincing 94% of the the convention, becoming the only candidate the IP has
chosen to endorse in this years Minneapolis city elections.

"I'm honored to earn this, now let's get to it!," an excited Tamir exclaimed
after seizing the endorsement. "The Independence Party platform most closely
resembles my own. I'm proud to carry this banner and I'm sure this will help
me to get out my message of Government Accountability and Community
Empowerment. I believe my views on Crime and Justice, The Environment,
Affordable Housing, Education and Children's Issues resonates with the
constituents of the Sixth Ward, and I'm simply pleased to be taking another
step forward towards representing my district on the city council."

In other news, the IP officially endorsed the petition drive to change the
Minneapolis City Charter to have all city elections decided by Instant
Runoff Voting (IRV). To view the charter amendment, simply click here:

Finally, the Fifth District elected Peter Tharaldson as its new Chair after
the current Chair, Neal Levine, declined a nomination for re-election.
Peter, who most recently worked on the James Gibson for US Senate and Denn
Evans for State House campaigns, as well as being Treasurer of the Fifth
District, is an experienced and talented IP volunteer who won with the full
endorsement of the outgoing leadership and unanimous support of the
convention. Peter has some exciting ideas about community outreach and
should make an excellent Chair who seems poised to take the IP to new and
exciting heights. You may contact Peter at (612)640-0212.
