As the election heats up, I just want to clarify my two roles as list
manager and a forum participant.

Longtime list members know that I post under two different names. I use the
"List manager" title when I am posting rules interpretations, forwarding
articles, announcements, etc. I post under "David Brauer" when I have an
opinion on an issue. As "David Brauer." I'm governed by the same rules as
any member of the forum, including the two post-per-day limit.

As you are now well aware, I was recently critical of Minneapolis mayoral
candidate Mark Stenglein. I've often told members that I built this sandbox
so I can play in it. At the same time, I also think I do an excellent job
managing it. That's a tricky balancing act, but I think I've demonstrated
success. I have never pretended to be objective -- but I pledge to be fair.
I think I have treating all Minneapolis political parties fairly, and
hopefully all candidacies.

I want to assure all members that I will not use the List Manager role to
advocate for, or against, any candidate. If I post articles favorable to, or
critical of, a candidate, I will do so without interpretation. I also pledge
that I will do my best to be fair and try to use the same standard of what
is "newsworthy" for all candidates. Although I have particular favorites, I
will not hesitate to forward articles that may be negative toward them.
Ditto about favorable stories about people I do not support. (Please note,
though, I don't catch everything. Members should feel free to forward
interesting Minneapolis articles without waiting for me.)

Should members ever question my fairness, there are three things you can do.
First, I ask you to write me directly. One cannot always see one's bias, and
I'd like to have a chance to explain and evaluate my actions. Two, please
complain to my board chairman, Steve Clift, at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Three,
there is a forum for discussing Minneapolis-Issues management at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mpls-rules. Subscribing is easy and it's a
MUCH lower traffic list than the main Minneapolis-Issues list.

Thanks again to everyone for participating, and I hope we can all survive
the election.

Sincerely,
David Brauer
List manager, Minneapolis-Issues
