Thanks to Jan Del Calzo and Sara Strzok for their comments on the Met Council Transportation Committee's action to make approval of the MAC's Capital Improvement Budget conditional on fulfilling commitments to noise relief. Aviation is considered a regional system and as such the Met Council has significant planning functions as well as authority when it comes to the Capital Budget. We will be updating the Aviation Policy Plan this year so it is my hope, (indeed expectation) that the Met Council will play a more active role in noise mitigation efforts. It was great to see the Mpls City Council, through the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, chaired by 11th Ward Council Member Scott Benson unanimously support our actions regarding the MAC There is an article in tomorrow's (Feb.27) Star-Tribune by Dan Wascoe Jr. on this topic.
