I am a member of the Board of Directors of YouthAction, a national non-profit dedicated to supporting youth who are organizing for social change and justice in their communities. This weekend past, we had our second annual gathering for youth organizing in San Antonio, TX. During the conference 300 youth (from the conference and San Antonio) held an amazingly powerful protest against police brutality and racial profiling. What amazed me was that so many youth, upon finding out that I am from Minnesota, commented on how "good" our city was with regards to police brutality and profiling. I made it clear that a portion of the "finest" of Minneapolis were not much more gentle than some of the neo-nazis who showed up to heckle our protest. It looks as if I am still right on.
