Wondering when Mr. Atherton is planning to run for a seat on the school board?
Apparently the
solution is astonishingly simple, we just need a
"a task oriented superintendent with the courage and determination to make hard
decisions."
Perhaps Mr. Atherton is the one for the job? But before I give you a vote, I'd like
to know,
what have you done already to help improve things in MPS? How have you been working to
get your
ideas implemented?

Michael Atherton wrote:
Rather than spending tons of money on reducing class sizes why don't we try other
methods which
have actually been shown to be effective such as parental involvement programs and
highly
structured classrooms.

Michael Atherton also wrote:
Establishing standards of behavior is certainly important, but I think that the
schools should
focus on their own domain and not try to cure the ills of the greater society.

CD:
Would you agree that lack of parental involvement is an "ill of greater society"? What
are some
of your ideas for involving parents who don't care about their child's education, who
don't
provide for their well being at home and are unable to handle their behavior problems?
How do
you intend to address these issues with out considering the greater ills at the root
cause of
problems (transience, drug abuse, domestic violence)? Really, a child's life
experience does
not exist in a sterile vacuum inside a school building for six and a half hours a day.
So what
next, skip the vision and go into action? I'm still waiting to see your name on a
ballot.
