(AS): >Should the DFL vie with the Governor to see who is the bigger >disrespecter of religion? Or at least Judeo-Christian religion, because >I don't hear as much bashing of Muslim (gender-specific dress and legal >codes) and Native American (only men can drum) religions. Well the Governor vetoed the Colin Powell Center. So the phone calls to his office on the topic were successful. If they were smart, the would follow the Mary Jo Copeland method and pursue private funding.
>Years ago when I was a liberal I started to realize that some liberals >could tolerate just about anything but people who believe in God. >Seemed pretty inconsistent to me. (KM) Personally, I was not in favor of funding the Colin Powell Center simply because I though it would be unconstitutional. (but I don't care if they play softball in the park! :)) I believe in Separation of Church and State and seems like many Supreme Court decisions have made the Bill of Rights applicable to the states. It is my belief that Separation of Church and State protects religious freedom. It seems dismissive and unproductive to insinuate religious disrespect, religious intolerance and the like if you are not in favor of funding Colin Powel Center (or other faith based organizations receiving taxpayers $).
