Feel I need to make a point of clarification. The MPRB is not proposing to
put office space in the renovated shelter building. Rather this is
renovation of a "typical" park shelter - with one very important exception.
The MPRB wants to spend $1.2 Million on a building that very few people in
the neighborhood use. Even after the money is spent it is doubtful that will
change considering the demographics of the Loring Park neighborhood (few
families with children).
Let me make it clear again however that spending some money is necessary to
restore the building. It's just that there are other needs in the park that
we would like to see addressed as well.
Oh, did I mention that the MRPB has decided not to run the Berger Fountain
as long this summer due to budget concerns, can't fix the tennis courts and
probably will not give us a skating rink on the lake this winter for the
same reason? Lots of money to rehab a building that few use but no money for
items that the community feel are important.
