Lt. Gregory W. Reinhardt/MPD writes a truly moving narrative upon witnessing the death of a young man near him home... another victim of brutality.
Until we, as a society, stop purchasing violence as a product, it will not stop. As a tot my son wanted to watch Ninja Turtles but I wouldn't let him because they solved all their problems by fighting... so he would watch it at his friends' homes and his Dad's house on weekends. Now that he is a teen, he and his friends like to play violent video games. I don't allow them in our home so they take their allowances and go to the pay-cyber shop and play on their machines. Why is sex, a perfectly normal and lovely part of life so rigidly regulated at the movies while violence is scarcely noticed? I recall going to the 3rd Indiana Jones movie in which a human heart is torn from the chest of a living man. My children were not born yet, but there were two young boys in the row in front of me... total strangers... and when I realized what was about to happen I leaned forward and told the two boys to cover their eyes, that the coming scene was not appropriate for them to see. When it was over I told them they could look now. They say it takes a village... we're a city... what are WE doing about the violence problem? Are we just shaking our heads or are actually doing something to make changes in our lives and those around us? Wendy Introwitz Pareene South Minneapolis TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Don't feed the troll!
