I saw Johnny Cash at the State too. The opening act was the Jayhawks & I thought they were awful. Apparently, I am the only one who thought so -- they are a big hit now. Johnny apparently saw the talent I couldn't.
He gave an awesome performance. What I remember most is that I took my daughter who was in her adolescent rebellion period & she could not BELIEVE that her uncool mother was also a fan of Cash. One of the few things we both could enjoy together in those days. I also took her to see Carol Channing in "Hello Dolly!" at the State -- I figured it would be her last national tour & thought she should see this national institution live at least once. She was blown away by her & could not believe she was as old as she was then. Same thing with Loretta Lynn & Crystal Gayle at the State Fair a few years back -- (sorry for St. Paul reference David).
