I don't know what happened last week in northeast Minneapolis. The story posted here, however, is reminiscient of something that happened in San Francisco about 18 months ago.
In that case two off-duty officers had been drinking in a bar. After they left the bar they encountered two men who were carrying some takeout food. As I recall the story, the cops more or less stole the food and beat up the two men. One of the cops was the son of the SF police chief. The incident was reported, and was apparently buried by higher ups in the police department, until the press got wind of the story. (note: the police chief was not implicated in the cover-up.) Over a few days, the details emerged and the cops were charged with assault and theft, and I think the police chief resigned. Is anyone at the Strib or City Pages interested? That's what it would take--some initial legwork by the press that gets the county attorney's attention. --M. G. Stinnett Jordan REMINDERS: 1. Think a member has violated the rules?
