Michael Atherton wrote, "Carleton has a number of virtues that one rarely sees
in politics these days: integrity, intelligence, and grace."

From across the aisle, I second Michael's remarks about Carleton. I have
enjoyed working against him as a political adversary, but I have also enjoyed working
with him as a fellow Minneapolis party chair and a fellow political junkie. He is
indeed a man of integrity and honor and, almost as important, he always brings to the
table a sense of humor and perspective. Throughout my dealings with Carleton as his
opposite number in the DFL Party, he has always been a citizen first and a partisan
second. I join in congratulating him as he retires as City Republican Chair; and in
congratulating his successor, Constance Nompelis, on her election.
