Too many geese is a problem for us and them. It is an ecological problem for
creatures living in the river and us and a contributor to the dead zone and
water quality issues of the Mississippi River
_http://www.animalalliance.ca/projects/Landscape.pdf_
(http://www.animalalliance.ca/projects/Landscape.pdf) Contains non lethal strategies
for urban
conflicts with geese and us. I am perfectly willing to take to responsibility for
us humans creating what is basically a degraded ecology that causes this
explosion of a non migrating goose population. Human overpopulation is also an
ecological problem.
Just because we caused this problem is no reason to ignore solutions.

Line of sight barriers, less mowing, less turf grass, less fertilizer,
native plantings, tree canopies at the waters edge combined with discouragement
(like border collies)
are proven to be effective strategies. Is there some reason we should not be
doing these?

Thanks,
Scott Vreeland Seward
