Mr. Mork has it correct.

Why are they bored? I observe many parent's of the recent/current
generation in, say..high-school, valuing being liked by their kids more than
actually teaching them skills to prepare them for their inevitable
independence and the required attitude needed to overcome many failures they
will undoubtedly face; this often requires an occasional "no."

It appears that school systems, have adopted a precept of many parents that
children are actually just young adults ready for early independence and
choice. This is just an intellectual excuse to avoid teaching/parenting.
Consequently, these kids grow up thinking they make the rules.

Try to find a way to make school interesting? Start culling the teachers
that nurture versus the teachers that inspire and challenge growing minds
not yet even capable of understanding nor appreciating the importance of why
they are there.

To nurture the ill-equipped student into a diploma does not serve them, or
us, when they can't perform basic math or read at a level of a HS graduate;
regardless of the reason..especially if we pass them and they go about their
life thinking they have acquired the same base as everyone else. It sounds
more like a cruel sadistic joke to allow that.

And when these parents scream because someone failed to do their job for
them and their child needs more teaching..we'll I guess we'll know where the
kids got it from.
