I think Ray Marshall raises valid questions here, regarding the operating
shortfall associated with maintaining the radio station within the
Minneapolis Public Schools. I think maintaining adequate traditional course
offerings should take priority-- reading and writing skills, grammar and
math capabilities are necessary prerequisites for any career in radio
broadcasting and technical support. This seems to be an area where it's
fiscally prudent to differentiate between maintaining quality traditional
high school offerings via MPS, while using our post-secondary
vocational-technical training institutes for more advanced and specialized
studies-- like radio broadcasting/engineering. The MPS can't be everything
to everyone, they must focus on their core mission, and do it exceedingly
well- for all students.

Perhaps the high school students (from many city schools) could attend radio
broadcasting-oriented classes at Brown (for instance), just as they can take
college-level coursework at the U of M while still in high school. I'm sure
there are additional opportunities for specialized training for hs
students... baking for instance, that are offered in specialized,
post-secondary settings. There's no need to duplicate and overlap course
offerings and functions in our various levels of educational institutions.
I'd imagine all it would take would be a little innovative and cooperative
planning between the various learning institutions.
