The annual meeting of the Park Board will be Monday, January 3, starting at 5:00pm.

This meeting is significant because it is the meeting where the following elections and appointments occur:

1. Election of a new board president. [sets agenda, appoints committees and representatives below]
2. Election of a new board vice president.
3. Election of a new board secretary.

4. Selection of board attorney(s) (General Counsel) [a ~$400,000 opportunity]

5. Selection of board representatives to following bodies:
        * Planning Commission
        * Board of Estimation and Taxation
        * NRP Policy Board
        * St. Anthony Falls Heritage Board (4 or 5 seats)
        * Youth Coordinating Board
        * Minneapolis Institute of Arts Board
        * Committee on Urban Environment (CUE)
        * Public Art Design Advisory Panel
        * Water Quality Task Force
        * Middle Mississippi Watershed Management Organization
        * John H. Stevens House Organization
        * Midtown Community Works Partnership
        * Minneapolis Bicycle Advisory Committee
        * Blue Water Association
        * People for Parks
        * Minneapolis Tree Advisory Committee
        * Minnehaha Creek Visioning

6. President's Appointments of Standing Committees
        * Administration and Finance
        * Recreation
        * Planning
        * Operations and Environment
        * Legislation and Inter-Governmental
        * Standards and Conduct

So you see, a perfect opportunity for tyranny of the majority. If this year's meeting is anything like last year's, the ruling majority will simply ignore any citizen concerns and make formal their previously decided back room choices. Come watch the fun at the usual place in the Park Board Taj Mahal HQ building at 2117 West River Road.
