Actually Sheldon, I went to the PRT proponents
marketing information and looked at what they propose
for tracks. As you suggested, I want to make sure we
are making honest comparisons here.

Their prototype is at: http://www.skywebexpress.com

The system requires not one but two tracks to operate
and according to their own presentation they do not
appear to be small or sleek.

I am thinking they would look even more intrusive on
Mpls. streets than a monorail system. When Dean
Zimmermann made his presentation to Whittier, he
showed the tracks nestled among the canopy of trees on
the street. Just how realistic do you think that
scenario is? In all likelihood the trees would have to
come down so as not to interfere with the tracks or
the car movement.

It is pointless to imagine where a good spot would be
for a demonstration project. It would cost $24 Million
dollars and in all likelihood would never get spent.
Many of the so-called proponents that are lining up to
partner with Dean Zimmermann are right wing
republicans that have strong associations with the
"build more highway" groups.

IMHO, they are only giving this idea the appearance of
credence because they are using it as subterfuge to
disrupt any proposals to add more lines to LRT such as
the Northstar line.

Dean has gone to any group who will listen to his 45
minute PowerPoint presentation prepared by Taxi 2000,
PRT manufacturer, for a "transit system". At present
PRT has no support among mainstream transit activists.
Transit for Livable Communities does not support PRT,
nor does the Sierra Club North
Star Chapter, or the majority of transit
professionals.
