The real Stormwatergate is the amount that is being charged to residents of poor neighborhoods. They are not being assessed the amount for one 1550 foot unit, they usually are charged two or three times that amount for small footprint houses without garages or driveways. Most houses in my neighborhood are unfairly paying three times the "statistical" average. Why?
I'd like to hear (read) some real figures for the amounts people are being charged. This claim of three times the average appears to be completely at odds with the letter I just received from the City's Public Works Department. It very clearly states that there are exactly 3 and only 3 rates for single-family properties.
Those rates are .75 times the standard rate, 1.00 times the standard rate and 1.25 times the standard rate. The standard rate is $8.72 per month for storm water. So that means single-family property owners ought to be paying $6.54, $8.72 or $10.90 per month.
I don't see how anyone could be paying two to three times the average using those numbers. Is there something this letter is not telling me?
