A crowded delegate assembly of the Minneapolis Central Labor Union Council, AFL-CIO voted last night to endorse Peter McLaughlin for Mayor of Minneapolis. The Minneapolis Central Labor Union Council is the only organization that gives the official, AFL-CIO “Labor Endorsement”.
“We are proud to endorse Peter McLaughlin,” said Bill McCarthy, President of the Central Labor Union Council. “Peter has always answered the call when there was a way he could help workers. Whether it’s been making sure county and HCMC workers have their rights protected, or standing side by side with private sector workers trying to organize, Peter McLaughlin has been a champion for labor issues.” The CLUC hosted a debate between McLaughlin and Mayor Rybak on April 14, attended by over 350 union members, and has been very active throughout the DFL endorsing process promoting its “Local Agenda for Good Jobs and Strong Communities.” “We believe that even in a time where our elected leaders in Washington and St. Paul are heading in the wrong direction, Peter McLaughlin can lead our city in a progressive direction and can achieve concrete, pro-worker, pro-community initiatives,” said McCarthy. The Minneapolis Central Labor Union Council also made endorsements Wednesday night for Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, Minneapolis Library Board, Minneapolis City Council, and Minneapolis Board of Estimate and Taxation.
