It is unimaginable to envision Samuels as a 'North Star'- he who is STILL
enthralled with his 'mulatto / Big House ' grandparents and derisive of
his'field slave' grandmother," We don't know much about her, grandfather never
spoke about her, we think she must have been a field slave".
He would have never left the plantation and the "big house" / after all- this
is where " they saw piano lessons being taught, and books being read , ....."!
" Our advantage ( family) that we enjoyed over the other folk in our village is
a direct result of my grandfathers being the last of the mulatto slaves who
lived in the big house " ( D.Samuels)
The True North Star proclaimed - " You gon be free or dead, cause dead Negroes
don't tell no tales" !
