Unit Part of 80-officer Minnesota Contingent Led By Minneapolis Lieutenant

Mayor Rybak has announced that twenty-one Minneapolis Police officers in 10
squad cars are being deployed to New Orleans, where they will assist local
officials in the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort. City officials will
participate in a brief ceremony tomorrow morning to send off the Minneapolis
officers.

The officers will leave Minneapolis for a two-week stay to work directly with
the New Orleans Police Tactical Unit. The Minneapolis officers are part of an
80-person unit from four Minnesota law enforcement agencies. The entire
Minnesota contingent will be under the command of Minneapolis Police Lt. Otto
Wagenpfeil, who is a New Orleans native. The Minnesota contingent led by Lt.
Wagenpfeil will include officers from Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington and
Ramsey County.
