Thousands of Somali refugees have settled in the Twin Cities since Somalia's civil war erupted in 1991. Minneapolis-St. Paul has become the de facto "capital" of the Somali community in North America. Mr. Omar Jamal will speak about the change the community went through after 9/11. Some of the main reasons the community settled in the Midwest were job market and services for families; however, soon after 9/11 all hopes vanished and fear, detention and FBI interrogation become very common. Mr. Jamal will focus on the high spirit of the Somali community being most recent immigrants in the United States in an attempt to accomplish the American Dream, yet without any of their making, get caught up in the terrorist war --------------------------------- Yahoo!
