Is there an election today? Coulda fooled me- I've never seen
so little enthusiasm for even a municipal election in this once fair
city. I was out doing visibility during evening rush hour and saw
little campaign activity. Even in the 5th ward, where one would
expect the candidates supporters to be fighting on street corners,
there was silence but for the usual out of control traffic and gang
activity. No traffic congestion in front of any polling places
though, and plenty of parking with no waiting inside.
Back in my home ward 3, precinct 9, I was the 140th voter at
6 pm. This precinct had about 350 voters in 2001 without a seriously
contested council race, and had nearly 1000 voters in 2004.
Predictions- with this low a turnout, expect surprises... And
all bets are off!
