It was great seeing our fearless leader as a talking head on the TV,
though the noise at the watching end was such I couldn't hear a word he
said. What a kick.
I was so proud of my precinct. We turned out the voters. I just love that.
I blew this election in my ward. First, I thought Hayden would win the
primary. Wrong. Coming into this week, I thought it would be a squeaker
between Glidden and Hauser. Wrong again. Glidden fairly trounced Hauser,
I think by 1,000 votes. Wow!
Glidden figured out a really important piece. She got the old heads to
support her. They can turn out the voters. She's lucky, too. She gets
Connie Kiser as office assistant, and that woman is good. If she could
clone Vernon Wetternach she could become mayor. No one, and I mean no
one, can beat Wetternach on constituent services.
Finally, we have a council member to call our own. Oh, frabjus day!
The Queen of Geekdom, Carol Becker walked away with the Bd. of E&T. Knew
she would.
I most assuredly enjoyed seeing Zimmermann do so well, and I'm sorry the
man didn't win, if for no other reason than to produce a ward wide nose
thumbing to the FBI. Bill Kahn called that FBI behavior on that one. Not
a peep outta them once they did the big media hoopla and seized the
lists and computers. Thank you voters in Ward 6 for that one. Fairly
made my day. Good on you, Dean.
Different ballgame on the park board. Here's hoping the new blood can
achieve some collegiality and establish the taking of minutes as a
necessary, though not sufficient, change. Good luck to you all.
Mains made it, Hooker made it, Holte is out at MPL. That's to the good.
Smart didn't make it, but she did well. I didn't expect her to make it.
Next time. This is some movement on the board. Waterman Wittstock walked
away with the big totals, good on her. She does know how to talk to the
legie, a plus for the board. Also, since Kathleen Lamb stepped down the
city council will appoint a new person for the first time in years. The
mayor will appoint a new person to replace Waterman Wittstock as his
rep. Depending on who they are, this could get interesting. Let's hope.
Peter didn't make it and, for all of us in the core city who need the
police, this is not good news. It also makes me worry about the whole
Chicago Corridor and the economic engine of the south side. Without the
cops and CCP/SAFE, one leg of the triangle is missing. Rybak has already
mostly gutted NRP. That's leg two. I don't believe Rybak will support
the progress made or that he even understands it. Yes, I'm a bit of a
sore loser on this one. So sue me.
