I am happy that the Stonewall DFL has gone to a
questionaire for endorsements instead of just having
people showing up and saying "I have gay friends and
like gay people" and getting their endorsement.
David, what the heck are you talking about here?
I personally have copies of Stonewall Screening questionnaires going
back over 6 years, and I remember them being used for some time
before then. Yet you are talking about this as if it were something new?
However, to be a voting member of
Stonewall DFL you don't need to self identify as part
of the glbtiq community or be a parent or child of a
glbt person or have any other personal tie
community(as the case with Lisa Goodman, who lived
with a gay male friend for example). As a result,
many DFL activists who have their own agendas apart
from glbtiq issues pay dues and join Stonewall DFL to
push for endorsement of their candidates.
Membership being open to anyone who supports our principles
is a result of something called Civil Rights Laws; something most of
us in the GLBT community look on with favor.
But just in case we ever do decide to restrict our
membership to only GLBT people, do you have a suggestion for an
accurate test we can use to "spot the straight", so we can exclude
potential non-queer members?
