I notice that Denver, Colorado hosts First American tribes, "many from the
great Northern Plains" for a "Native Renewable Energy Summit." This shortly
after ASPO-USA hosted over 400 scientists, economists, and petroleum industry
engineers met there.

It is interesting that the tribes went all the way to Denver to talk about
harnessing wind power from the plains in partnerships with cities. Is
Minneapolis currently working to make wind and solar at least 20% of our
electrical power source?

The rising cost of natural gas makes me doubt that the Riverside power plant
will ever be converted over to NG power. People will be screaming to burn more
coal in order to save money. Even as we build over 100 new coal-burning plants
in the USA and the pressure comes on to roll back pollution standards, we need
to skip right over the fossil fuel sources and go straight to renewable energy
sources.

Note that over 180 cities have signed on to respect the Kyoto accord -- as have
some states -- in spite of our Neanderthal federal administration.

Has Mayor Rybak signed Minneapolis on in support of the Kyoto standards? When
will we hold an energy summit for Minnesota right here in Minneapolis?

We need to realize that 70% of the petroleum we use goes to transportation.
Meanwhile, the demand for coal grows exponentially as well. Meanwhile, global
warming is just warming up, and other pollutants cause many health problems.

Mayor Rybak is right to call for construction of the light rail system ASAP.
Already it is too little and too late. The more we do now, the more benefits
we reap and the lower the costs will be.
