The mainframe allows a "fuzzy" backup.  I don't think the other platforms
provide a way to do a restore from a point in time and forward recover the
queues.

All the manuals/redbooks etc seem to state that the queue manager needs to
be stopped before it can be backed up. This doesn't seem ideal if you are
trying to run an application permanently.

Can anybody suggest ways of backing up a running Queue Manager.

Has anybody ever tried/succeeded in doing this kind of thing with MQSeries
(even using special "add-on" tools from another vendor...)
