Whilst I personally agree entirely with what you say, I've worked at several
companies where it's the department manager who wants the Middleware staff to
attain these certifications. They want to be able to show that their teams are
the 'Centre of Excellence' for their particular discipline. Presumably they
think that if heads need to go (especially in the current climate) these certs
help them argue that it should be someone else's!

MQ Certification, waste of time and money but its up to you. The
certification process
is fundamentally flawed. You can posess certificates and stick all the
relevant titles
in your email profile but it does nothing for credibility. Why ? There is
no expiry, nor
retest schedule to force currency.

The only winners apart from your own self esteem (which is very important)
are IBM
who make a small fortune from courses and certification processes.
