Opening queues is very cpu and time intensive compared to puts and gets.

Yes, you can open the queue for the day.

Subject: Keeping MQ Queues Open

Hi,

We have a application that sends data from z/OS to AIX. All the MQ work on
z/OS is done from a program that is linked to by a number of CICS programs.
There are 5 channels/queues going down to the AIX. The data is spread across
the channels/queues via a key in the message. What I'd like to know is, can
the queues be opened once and left open for the entire processing day ? and
closed at EOD. Now, when the transaction ends the objects are closed. I was
curious if repeated opens are costly ? and looking to avoid that. The
application folks want to keep the MQ program as simle as possible. We do
7-10 million messages a day, I know there are places that do many times more
than this and I'm curious how they handle it. Any input would be greatly
appreciated.

TIA
Dean
