If you are using MQCONNX, you can pass an MQCD to the MQCONNX (pointed to by the MQCNO), and in the MQCD, you can specify the MaxMsgLength. If the srvrconn at the other end of the channel agrees, you should be OK to use large messages up to the lower of the two sizes (the one you supply and the one on the srvrconn channel definition).
