Okay, everyone, thanks for all your help. I reviewed all the responses, the links they referred to, ruled out those that were invasive or ignore-the-error types.
Resolution: recreate the MQUSR_MQADMIN user account that was deleted at the end of the product installation. Thanks to everyone for their help and time. Dave A.
