When using the parameter --step 480000, rrdcgi goes to silicon heaven.
The following entry is visible in apache error.log:

[Fri Dec  5 11:18:14 2003] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] malformed header 
from script. Bad header=BUG in reduce_data(): 
/var/www/stats/spamassassin.cgi

It happens with values above around 250000
