I ran into the same thing. I upgraded the backend to rrdtool and dropped
my polling interval to 1 minute to get around the issue. Bear in mind,
that you can't utilize any lower polling frequency than 5 minutes, if you
are just using MRTG. You need to use RRDtool on the backend to use the
1-minute interval.

 We  have  shifted  one of our links from ethernet to  fiber on a cisco
7500 router.

The  traffic  goes above 120 Mpbs now ..and  my  mrtg  is not able to read
that..., i get  blank spaces in the graph  or sometimes  it only  10 % of
