Please avoid using Name as a field name as Access may confuse it with the
built-in syntax.

You may try this SQL statement

SELECT YourTable.Name, Left([YourTable.Name],InStr([YourTable.Name],",")-1)
AS FirstName,
Trim(Mid([YourTable.Name],InStr([YourTable.Name],",")+1,Len([YourTable.Name]
)-Len([FirstName])+1)) AS LastName
FROM YourTable;

This will create 2 fields FirstName and LastName from one field from the
table. I've included Trim in the LastName field to take care of any spaces
that may be there between comma and the last name.

Subject: [ms_access] How Do I Split Data That Is In One Field Into Two
Fields?

Group,
I'm drawing a blank right now. I have a field in Access2K called name.
This field has both first and last names separated by a comma in one
field....ie Doe, John. How can I split this name field into two fields
(last and first)?

TIA
