Once again, I accidentally sent a reply privately instead of to the list. Here is an updated version of what I meant to post:

The ChordName text style is still there internally, but got "hidden" not too long ago, I think by miwarre, and I seem to remember him explaining why. I think it was mainly for consistency with the fact that he did the same for figured bass. However, a few days ago I too thought that it ought to be made visible again. I wanted to try changing the font of rendered chords too. So it's interesting that you want to as well. There's probably a bit setting in the style list initialisation that you could try changing. I'll have a look too.

Ok, thanks, that does make sense. It's not a big deal right now, but it definitely deserves thought before release.

Actually, what you're describing is similar to what I am tentatively doing for chords.xml. That is, I am adding a "hidden" (for now) style option to control whether it this file is loaded (default true). I have edited the Jazz Lead Sheet template to turn this off, and to load a brand new "wysiwyg.xml" chord description file that defines no chord id's. So scores created from the Jazz Lead Sheet template will have no predefined chord list at all, and will always render all chords directly from the parsed form of whatever the user types. Eventually, I'll probably want to deliver two versions of the template - the old version for compatibility, and the new one.

I expect to check in these changes later today. I don't know what is involved in adding new files (wysiwyg.xml) to the distribution, though.
