Hi Carl The repository is updated continuously. There is no automatic update of your fork, you'd have to this manually, 'git fetch upstream;git rebase upstream/master;git push'. The clone on your machine is linked to your fork on GitHub. There is no way to have this updates to happen automatically, none that I'd know of at least. See above how to do it manually, also see the developers handbogok, git workflow.
