I will take your word for it about being 60 different element types - 
presumably at the very lowest level - but there's not nearly that many 
at the level I think the filter would need to work at.  Some of the 
groups would not need to be broken up at all, some elements don't sense 
for copy & paste, etc.  Partially based on my knowledge of the internals 
but mostly going off how I think of it as a user, here's the list of 
filters I think makes sense:

Clefs
Key Signatures
Time Signatures (?)
Barlines

Dynamics
Lyrics
Chord Symbols
Fret Diagrams
Text (general catch all for other non-system text)

Slurs
Hairpins
Ottava
Trills
Pedal Lines
Other Lines

Articulations
Arpeggios
Glissandi
Breaths
Fingering
Tremolo
Breaks
Bagpipe Embellishments

I am sure there could be a few more I am forgetting, but that's nowhere 
near 60, and I did check against the palette, so I can't possibly be 
omitting much.
