That was a general recommendation to update to the latest CU before the SP1 upgrade. I wasn’t aware of that and am not sure that’s really a necessary step. However – it is likely that the PG tested upgrading from RTM+CU2 > SP1 since that is what was released when the documentation was written. I imagine Kevin G. just carried that forward to CU3. RTM CU5 is the most current release…. If you want to apply that before your SP1 upgrade. I don’t suppose it could hurt but I am not sure of any gains it would bring you. The biggest “gotchya” is that we support different DB versions and OS versions between SC 2012 RTM and SC 2012 SP1, so ensure those are at supported levels before considering the upgrade.
