No additional steps needed – no need to run the GW approval tool again. The healthservice loads up the discovered certificate when it starts. As long as the cert is correctly created per the doco, it will load. Then as long as both sides have the same trusted root authority chain, they will work. Not a picky process.

Could I just generate a new certificate and use the momimportcert tool to get things back to normal? Would the gateway approval tool need to be run again?
