The System Center Unleashed books are always a good resource.

As far as monitoring SCCM through SCOM, the Management Pack guide for SCCM has
a rundown of all the monitors and rules that are included in the management
pack. In principle, it should contain most of what you'll need to get started
with basic SCCM monitoring. Some rules and monitors are optional and can be
enabled (via override) if you decide you want to monitor optional components.
The good thing about MP's is that they're always improving. While there may be
some gaps in monitoring, each new version of the MP released will contain
improvements over the last.

Key sections in the MP guide:

Monitoring Scenarios
How Health Rolls Up
Best Practice: Create a Management Pack for Customizations
Disabled Monitors and Rules (these are optional and should be enabled only when
the impact is fully understood)

Subject: [msmom] SCOM 2012 R2: Monitoring SCCM 2012 R2 environment

Guys,

Is there a good walk-through/how-to in implementing such monitoring that you
might share?

Also... I just spun up SCOM 2012 R2 and had a New Horizons' virtual class for a
week... honestly feeling like this thing is a beast and I only know the
concepts. Besides the books (I am planning to buy a couple of good ones I could
find), are there other beginner resources you might be able to recommend?
(obviously I find mailing lists very helpful :) )

I appreciate any input!
Nile
