Hi.
If you want a starting point for USB devices, microchip has a MCU that
is capable of low speed.
Both TI and CYPRESS have 8051 MCU capable of full speed.
Cypress has MCU´s or interface IC´s for USB2.0.

Steve mentioned USB - I like it. I also thought about improvements on
FEET hardware that could implement USB connection to programmer board:
1. Can anyone give me some suggestions on a starting point to design
Flash Emulation Tool for USB port to JTAG connector? I am interested
in designing the hardware. I would like to know if the USB idea is
worth-while.
2. About JTAG connector; I thought about switching from old fashion
0.1" pitch ribbon cable connectors to J45 10-pin or 8-pin network
connector and fine pitch ribbon cable or oval cable. Is it worth to
consider this? Would anyone be interested in such
improvements/changes?
I appreciate your comments.

we have a serial<->jtag programmer but it does not yet talk GDB....
it should be possible to build a firmware that is compatible with
gdbproxy.
(the breakpoint and maybe single stepping would need to be
implemented
by one of our group, but flash programming and r/w registers are
possible with
the freely available info)
does somebody want to spend some time, implementing the GDB protocol
for that serial<->JTAG adapter?
Probably not. The world actually wants a USB to JTAG adaptor :-)
